Easter Weekend at Destiny

Wow! The Easter weekend was pretty amazing at Destiny Foursquare Church. I especially loved Pastor Brent’s play on the Lost TV show in his message this morning — the sermon title was “Found – Season 1“. Great tie-in for me, as I am a HUGE fan of the show!

On a quick side note, I finally got Deanna to start watching Lost with me tonight. I’m hoping she’s hooked now because I’ve been wanting someone to watch it with. It’s just too good not to share the experience with someone!

The Good Friday service was also phenomenal. It is always a powerful connection-point to Jesus for me personally. I never paid much attention to the Cross on Easter weekend growing up; it was more all about the resurrection. As Deanna put it so well on Friday night, “We often overpass what [Jesus] had to do to get there…” Sad, but probably true.

I don’t know how this tradition started, but over the past few four or five years the Good Friday services at Destiny have been pretty much led by the student ministry. They do the worship, the human videos, the dance, the scripture and dramatic readings, and serve communion.

Youth pastors, if you have the opportunity, I would highly recommend getting your students involved in this way during the Easter weekend. The Good Friday service has become an annual highlight for our students and many of them are brought to their knees in tears. Just as it has been for me, it is a very emotional and touching expression of our remembrance of Calvary.

Here are some highlights from this year’s service…

Hey Shawn, what is the name of the song that is playing on this video? Did the young man singing it write it too? I have to have that song, so if you could let me know, I’d greatly appreciate it.

The artist is Paul Baloche. The song is “You Gave Your Life Away” from his “Our God Saves” album. Visit his official site at leadworship.com.
