Celebrating Deanna with the Family

Deanna was out of town for four days this weekend celebrating her birthday with family and friends. She was originally scheduled to be back Sunday night, but the mountain pass wasn’t cooperating (she was driving a rental with rear wheel drive). Frustrated, Deanna and her travel buddy decided to go south to try going around the passes. No luck. The highway going west was closed for construction! The girls decided to drive all the way to Albuquerque, NM, and spend the night.

Long story short, Deanna ended up having a horrible night, falling ill sometime that evening. She only slept 3 hours. Her friend did some shopping while she napped a little the next afternoon. After some rest, they stared heading back, getting back after the kids’ bedtime on Monday night.

Now, our family had been planning a big celebration for Deanna upon her return Sunday night. It was a sad, sad day when I had to tell them that she wouldn’t me making it. We had picked out all her gifts together, decorated the house with a “Happy 29th Birthday” banner (grin) and lots of balloons (including some really cool glow-in-the-dark ones), made her favorite cake, some punch, and had party hats and blowers ready for the moment she walked in the door! Fun stuff!

Then, with Deanna being ill, she didn’t make it home Monday in time either. Bummer twice.

The kids were beyond excited to finally get to jump out and say “Happy Birthday!” to their beloved mother last night! It was a fun time!

You’ll notice that it was a bit late in the day last night, too. We don’t get all the kids home until just before dinner. And by that time, I have to be down at the church for youth worship practice. AND before I get home, on Tuesday nights, Deanna heads out for an obedience class with our dog Sugar. It was 8:30 pm when she came home and Lazarus was already down for the evening. Good thing he doesn’t know what he missed! Haha! You’ll note that we kind of whisper-sing the Happy Birthday song and when Dairian excitedly — somewhat loudly — says, “Cha-cha-cha!” at the end, we all shushed him 🙂

Anyhow, we love Deanna tons. And I think she really enjoyed our efforts. Mikella said after the night was over, too, that “It was a fun night.”

Agreed.
