Last Sunday night in Catalyst Discipleship we started some really good discussion on “church” and what Jesus is calling us to as a body of believers.  We put a whiteboard up and started listing God-definitions of church and also religious/cultural-definitions of what church has become known for.  The “cultural” side was pretty painful with words going up like “judgmental”, “hypocritical”, “flakiness: words with no action”, etc.  Ouch!  Students eyes were really being opened to things that we need to do better — overall — in sharing Christ with our world.  The discussion was going so good that we ended up not even getting close to finishing.  We decided that we’d keep the discussion going this weekend.

This morning, I ran across the following video from Kinetic Church, a mobile theater ministry in North Carolina who had 75% of everything they owned stolen.  It moved me to tears.  Not the fact that they lost all their stuff, but their response given to the one(s) responsible for taking it…

In the words of my blogging friend, Brian Eberly

“It is stuff like this that the world needs to see from us, the Church. May we all learn what it means to truly live an incarnational life.”

This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and His love is made complete in us. 1 John 4:9-12
